Dealers are the various merchants that are invited to the convention to sell their wares and promote organizations and events. These dealers are relegated to the dealers or "hucksters" room where their goods can be safeguarded.

Typical dealers include:

  • Book stores
  • Book publishers
  • Local artists
  • Armouries and historical weapon manufacturers
  • Pop-culture toy stores
  • Costume suppliers
  • Jewelry sellers and makers

Also in the Dealers Room may be people who appear to be dealers such as:

  • Fan clubs
  • Future conventions (e.g. upcoming Worldcons and bids)
  • Fannish organisations (BSFA etc.)
  • Charity stalls (selling books for Oxfam etc.)
  • Exhibits (NASA paraphenalia, old convention badges, GoH retrospective etc.) if not exhibited elsewhere.

At many conventions these additional tables are charged either a lower rate or are given "free", although obviously there is an opportunity cost if it keeps a full paying dealer out of the Dealers' Room. And a potential for complaints if there is competition between books being sold by the charity/fannish organisation tables and the paying book dealers.
