n. Smof --Secret Master of Fandom -- is a term used by some to refer to a person who runs SF conventions and does other fannish activies that keep the gears of the fannish community turning. If you think you are a smof, you probably are.
There are conventions about conrunning, such as Smofcon and Midwest Construction, where smofs get together to meta-smof. There are also discussion groups, such as the Smofs and Smofcon discussion lists.
v. Smof can also be used as a verb. Sometimes non-smoffing spouses get tired of our smoffing so we must go smof in seclusion. Beware of smoffing too much on social occassions that include non-smofs as you may exclude them from the conversation as with any technical discussion of a specific field. Then again, should someone show interest, do not hesitate to recruit a non-smof into smofdom.
