While American conventions might have the consuite as a social hub, in the UK its the Bar. With legal drinking age of 18, there is less social stigma, and many people will spend all day there sipping their b(h)eer. Bar proceeds always impress hotels during negotiations, as fans have a reputation for drinking like rugby fans but acting like clergymen. Provided the hotel provides Real Ale and orange juice/coffee at reasonable prices, they will make good money.
