Science Fiction with stories typically based on space activities, often with a very grand scale. Several planets, planetary systems, or even many galaxies may be involved. Archtypical themes of Good and Evil can often be easily identified.

Edward E. Smith (author of the Lensman novels) is perhaps the best-known creator of space opera. Much more recently, many people categorize David Weber's Honor Harrington books in this genre.
