Filk
A type of music often found at SF conventions, and now often the main subject of some dedicated conventions as well. It's believed to have originated as a typo for "folk", referring to fans getting together for informal folk-singing in the evening during conventions. But quite quickly (and fully in accordance with the folk tradition) fans started modifying songs and writing new songs, and filk quickly became understood to refer primarily to this new and specifically fannish music.
